The first hangar doors were installed today (20/2/2018) on the new Amberley aircraft hangars.
There were ample staff around to ensure all processes and safety procedures were covered.
The lift commenced at 7.30am and took just over an hour to have it vertical and in position to drop in the top rollers. Lifting this 19T structure to its final resting place required a 140T crane, 100T crane and 20 T franna to bring it up from a horizontal position from just outside the hangar. The door was then held while the 4 top roller pins, weighing 220kg each, were placed into position 21m up in the air using a 40t crane from the inside.
The door is sliding freely along the bottom rail and we are currently assembling the 2nd door for a lift later this week.
1 door down 3 to go!
